Introducing Character Creator: A Fun Way to Foster Self-Expression, Self-Confidence, and Inclusivity

We’re thrilled to announce that Character Creator is now live and ready for your students to explore! Character Creator not only adds an exciting layer of personalization to Ava, but it also gives students the opportunity to apply essential social-emotional learning (SEL) skills.

How does Character Creator Align with Common SEL Skills?

Self-Expression

Students can create characters that represent themselves or create unique personas. Regardless of which they choose to do, the act of creating the character fosters self-expression and deeper understanding of self.

Self-Confidence

Character Creator was thoughtfully designed with representation in mind. Certain groups are often underrepresented in the media, including games. Lack of representation can have lasting effects on students’ self-confidence. Students can choose from a variety of skin tones, facial features, hairstyles, and clothing options as well as tools like wheelchairs, glasses, noise-canceling headphones, and more.

In addition to visual characteristics, students can choose their character’s personality, hobbies, and more in the “Character Bio” section.

Communication

Character Creator promotes critical thinking and can spark countless conversations between students and educators. After your students create their characters, use our Character Creator Prompts to encourage students to share the reasoning behind their choices. This gives students practice with articulating their thought process as well as confidently communicating their decisions.
